ISLAMABAD, Aug 25 (APP):The election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday refuted a news report of postponing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa local government elections for a year.
“It was untrue to hold Election Commission responsible for delaying LG elections or agreeing to any such delay,” an ECP spokesman said in a statement.
He strongly denied the news report attributed to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly speaker wherein the speaker had reportedly said that the ECP has agreed to a provincial government’s proposal to postpone the LG elections in the province for a year as the elections were not possible in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until next year due to Afghan situation.
ECP spokesman said that the commission was bound to hold LG elections in the province within 120 days after the expiry of LG government’s tenure on August 27, 2019.
ECP has already held numerous meetings with representatives of
provincial government and repeatedly urged them to assist ECP in holding LG elections but in vain.
