ATTOCK, Oct 24 (Online): The teams of local administration along with Punjab food authority (PFA) and Punjab environment protection agency (EPA) unearthed four different oil and fat rendering units established in densely populated area of Hassanabdal and subsequently sealed them besides the owners were sent behind the bars after registration of cases against them.
The team led by assistant commissioner Dr Sana Ramchand along with food safety officer Waqas Ahmed, Chief Officer municipal committee Sana Ullah raided at the illegal fat rendering units in Tahirkhali town, Dhoke Miskeen, Meharabad and Bafaud road and sealed these units.
Two units were working in junkyards while two others were working in the residential units. The officials also recovered around huge quantity of oil during the operation.
Talking to newsmen on this occasion, Dr Sana has said that all units were involved in extracting oil from animals’ filth and fat as well as supplied to local shops in the area. “A huge quantity of animals waste and fat collected from city and its surrounding areas which used for extracting oil,” she said.
She said that these units were made operational by the owners during night to save their skin from any action and lives of the dwellers of the respective area were made hell due to rotten smell emitting from these units while local administration was searching these units since long and during joint successful operation theses units were unearthed. She said that separate cases were registered against the accused under section 22 and 23 of Punjab food authority act 2011 and launched further action.
