ISLAMABAD, Oct 23 (Online): Election Commission (EC) has reserved judgment on the matter of allotting eagle as election symbol to Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP).
A 3-member bench of EC presided over by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) took up the petition with regard to allotment of eagle as election symbol for hearing on Monday.
Counsel for Abdul Aleem Khan President of IPP appeared in the court.
He told the commission applications have been submitted for three times by them in connection with allotment of eagle as election symbol.
CEC remarked other parties too have filed petitions for allotment of eagle as election symbol.
The counsel said at present no party has submitted application for allotment of eagle as election symbol.
Member Punjab said why the stress is being placed for allotment of one election symbol. Why the other options have not been kept.
CEC said if we don’t allot this symbol then the other symbol will not be taken.
The counsel said I can tell about it after seeking instructions from party.
Member KP said where chairman of party is. Can President file application to seek election symbol.
The counsel said the slot of party chairman is vacant at present. President wields full powers. This application has been issued by the president.
The EC while reserving the judgment sought record with regard to powers of the president.
