ISLAMABAD, Dec 23 (Online): Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz has said what products come out of poppy they are more profitable than drugs.
“negative things are said against cultivation of poppy but we have not to pay any attention to them. What products are yielded from poppy they are more profitable than drug. Use of drug will decline when profit comes 10 fold more”, he said this while talking to media men on the occasion of inauguration of poppy crop harvesting in Rawat Thursday.
He indicated that poppy was cultivated in the month of August. The costliest part of poppy is its seed. Its seeds were obtained from KP, Balochistan and Gilgit. It took three months in cultivation of poppy crop in one acre land. Now the time for harvesting poppy has come.
He dispelled the impression that poppy is misused. It is used in medicines. Its fiber is used in industries. This is beneficial both in import and export.
He pointed out that the Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan had launched campaign for cultivation of olive and its production has now started. Earlier we used to see that olive oil was imported. Our government is set to patronize such projects.
He underlined if policy is not worked out and law is not enacted then industry cannot move forward. Policy has been evolved in collaboration with ministry of agriculture, FBR, health ministry and other stake holders. We have to see the development of the country.
We have to grow stronger economically. Poppy turnover is very fast. Variety will come in the crops of the people due to cultivation of poppy.
