ISLAMABAD, June 05 (Online): Chief Justice (CJ) Islamabad High Court (IHC) Aamir Farooq has remarked there is bar on irresponsible reporting and not on court’s reporting.
There is no bar on judicial reporting. Media can report court’s proceedings. Bar is not on reporting but bar is on irresponsible reporting, he gave these remarks during the hearing of petitions filed by Press Association Supreme Court (PASC) and Islamabad High Court Journalists Association (IHCJA) here Wednesday.
The petitioners Fayyaz Muhammad, Rizwan Qazi and Aqeel Afzal appeared in the court.
The CJ IHC remarked there is no bar on court’s reporting. Media can report court’s proceedings. Bar is not on reporting but bar is there on irresponsible reporting. Problem is created when a sensational ticker is run.
PEMRA filed its reply in the court.
Barrister Umar Ijaz Gillani and Riasat Ali Azad president Islamabad Bar Association appeared in the court.
The court inquired from Additional Attorney General (AAG) has federal government any relevance with this matter.
AAG Munawar Iqbal Dogal said this is PEMRA related matter and federal government has nothing to do with it.
Barrister Umar Ijaz Gillani said there is no bar on reporting pending hearing cases in the law from which PEMRA has taken help.
The court summoned final arguments on next hearing besides adjourning hearing of the case till June 11.
