Supreme Court accepts bail plea of Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman, Gawadar ko Haq Do Tehreek

ISLAMABAD, May 18 (Online): Supreme Court (SC) has accepted bail plea of Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman, JI leader and founder of Gawadar ko Haq Do Tehreek against two surety bonds of Rs 300000 in the case of killing of police man during protest in Gawadar.

The bail petition came up for hearing before a 3-member bench of SC presided over by Justice Sardar Tariq Masood Thursday.

JI chief Siraj ul Haq too appeared in the court.

Kamran Murtaza counsel for the petitioner told the court Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman was arrested from court premises. His client is in jail since December 2022. Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman is charged with inciting others.

Justice Sardar Tariq Masood inquired on the occasion why the arrest from court premises was not challenged.

Kamran Murtaza told the court the SC decision had not come at that time that arrest from court premises would be illegal. This principle was set by SC in Imran Khan arrest case. The court while declaring the arrest of Imran Khan from court’s premises illegal kept him under its custody too.

Advocate General (AG) took the plea before the court bail be not granted to Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman till the prime accused becomes judicial.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar remarked Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman is charged with inciting and abetting in murder of police man.

Kamran Murtaza said the offence of inciting and abetting will be determined in trial. The movement of Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman pertains of provision of water.

The court accepted bail plea of Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman against two surety bonds of Rs 3 lac.

It is pertinent to mention here Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman was arrested from Gawadar on January 13, 2023 under murder charges.
