Lahore February 10 (Online): Acting Governor Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi said strong local bodies can play important role in solving public problems and efforts are being made to give maximum powers to elected local body representatives in Punjab.
He was talking to Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser at Governor House Lahore. Members of National Assembly Junaid Akbar, Dr Haider Ali, Saleh Mohammad and Secretary Punjab Assembly Mohammad Khan Bhatti were also present in the meeting.
The two leaders discussed parliamentary issues, the political situation and issues of mutual interest. Ch Parvez Elahi discussed the Punjab Local Government Bill and took Asad Qasier into confidence on the Local Government Bill under consideration in the standing committee in the Punjab Assembly.
Ch Parvez Elahi said that strong local bodies can play an important role in solving the problems of the people. Efforts are being made to give maximum powers to the elected representatives in the Local Government Bill passed in Punjab.
It is necessary to empower the local body representatives to solve public problems at the grass root level.
Asad Qaiser said that parliament members can provide relief to the people through effective legislation; I try to give maximum opportunity to the members to speak on public issues in the House.
