SC refers back the bail plea of accused in embezzlement of wheat stock to AC

ISLAMABAD, August 15 (Online): Supreme Court (SC) while referring back the matter of bai in respect of Muhammad Iqbal accused in embezzlement of wheat stock to Accountability Court (AC) has ordered the court should decide on bail plea of the accused in three months.

A two members bench of SC presided over by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial took up the bail plea for hearing Monday.

The CJP remarked during the hearing of the case it is written in the last order of the court delay has been caused from the side of accused. In one reference there is allegation of stealing wheat worth Rs 910 million from 8 mills. In second reference there is allegation of disappearance of 41550 tonnes wheat .The accused Muhammad Iqbal Memon was to conduct inspection of stock being district food collector. The what was stolen from the stock for want of inspection.

Barrister Saad counsel for the accused told the court the statements of only 4 out of 23 witnesses have been recorded in two references so far. The accused is 62 years old and is patient of blood pressure and sugar.

The CJP remarked the matter before us is of merit rather than delay.

Justice Ayesha Malik while addressing the counsel for the accused remarked “you will have to prove you completed your duty.
