ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain-wind/thunderstorms at isolated places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and upper Punjab on Friday, with chances of heavy rain and hailstorm at some places.
While most plain areas of the country are expected to remain hot and dry.
According to the PMD forecast, partly cloudy weather is likely in Islamabad and adjoining areas, with rain-wind/thunderstorm and isolated hailstorm expected during the day.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain-wind/thunderstorm is likely at isolated places in Swat, Dir, Kohistan, Shangla, Mansehra, Battagram, Buner, Bajaur, Khyber, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Kohat, Kurram, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan and adjoining areas during the afternoon. Hailstorm may also occur at isolated places.
Most plain districts of Punjab are expected to remain dry and hot during the day. However, partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorm is likely in Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Attock, Jhelum, Narowal, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Lahore, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Khushab, Bhakkar, Layyah, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jhang, Okara and adjoining areas during the evening and night. Isolated hailstorm is also expected.
Most districts of Sindh and Balochistan are likely to experience hot and dry weather. However, rain-wind/thunderstorm may occur in Zhob, Musakhel and adjoining areas of Balochistan during the evening and night.
Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are also expected to receive rain-wind/thunderstorms at isolated places under partly cloudy conditions.
During the last 24 hours, dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country, with hot conditions in the plains. However, rain-wind/thunderstorm occurred at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, upper Punjab and Kashmir.
Dir (Upper) received the highest rainfall of 23 mm, followed by Murree 11 mm, Narowal 8 mm, Peshawar (City) 2 mm, Hafizabad 2 mm, Sialkot (City) 2 mm, Kotli 2 mm, Sialkot Airport 1 mm and Islamabad (City) 1 mm.
The highest maximum temperature of 42C was recorded at Shaheed Benazirabad and Dalbandin, while Sakrand, Mithi, Nokundi, Turbat and Dadu recorded 41C.
