Punjab govt suspends sentence of Nawaz Sharif in Al-Azizia reference

LAHORE, OCT 24 (ONLINE): Care taker Punjab government has suspended sentence of former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif in Al-Azizia referemce.

Nawaz Sharif had requested Punjab government for suspending sentence in the light of Islamabad High Court (IHC) decision.

Upon it Punjab care taker cabinet suspended the sentence in Al-Azizia reference.
Government sources said Punjab care taker cabinet has accorded approval to suspend the sentence under section 401 of criminal procedural code.
The care taker cabinet is authorized to suspend the sentence under section 401 of Criminal Procedural Code (CPC).
In 2019 the sentence of Nawaz Sharif was suspended under section 401 before his departure to London.

Reacting to suspension of sentence of Nawaz Sharif in Al-Azizia reference former Attorney General (AG) Ashtar Ausaf said IHC was resorted to in connection with suspension of sentence of former PM Nawaz Sharif. Former Chief Justice (CJ) IHC Athar Minallah had offered this judgment. Cabinet has taken this decision under legal advice. How can anyone object over this decision?

He said cases against Nawaz Sharif were registered in haste. Legal complications are not in law. They were in procedure. Legal complications don’t exist but they are made. There is long list of cases pertaining to previous period. There were matters of Shehbaz Sharif, Hamza Shahbaz and Saad Rafiq during previous period.
