KARACHI 12 March (Online): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Karachi General Secretary and Sindh MPA Arslan Taj was arrested on Sunday by the police.
According to a PTI Karachi spokesperson, Arslan Taj was arrested “illegally” from his residence today.
He said that three police vehicles arrived at the MPA’s house and that police officers were in plain clothes when they entered the house and ransacked it.
The spokesperson condemned the PTI leader’s arrest, but there has been no response from the Sindh government and police.
Following the incident, PTI Karachi President Aftab Siddiq and Additional Secretary General Imran Ismail immediately wrote a letter to Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Muhammad Sohail Rajput condemning the arrest.
The letter stated that the Sindh police is acting as the provincial government’s “private militia and domestic servant”.
It added that by arresting the PTI Karachi leader, they blatantly violated various fundamental rights, rules and sections of the constitution.
The letter demanded “stern action” against the Sindh police, “especially those involved in the abduction of MPA Arsalan Taj” and requested his immediate release.
“Today, our brother has been picked up from his house,” Ismail said speaking to the media.
He questioned where the MPA was taken and what he had done to be punished in this way, adding that his family is stricken with fear.
Party’s official Twitter account shared a video of the arrest, calling out the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for “repeatedly showing their true colours”.
“Bilawal and Zardari should be ashamed of themselves for this gross act of fascism,” it tweeted, urging the media to “speak up” against them.
