President Arif Alvi files petition in ATC for not seeking immunity in PTV, Parliament attack case

ISLAMABAD, March 04 (Online): President Dr Arif Alvi appeared before an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad Friday along with his counsel Dr Babar Awan in the 2016 PTV, Parliament attack case against him.

Under stringent security measures President Arif Alvi appeared in the court.

President filed petition in the court to get quash presidential immunity in the case.

The president told the court “I tried to study Islamic history. There is no room for immunity. I am bound to the constitution of Pakistan. The holy Quran is bigger constitution than this. The constitution of Pakistan gives me immunity. But I don’t want to get immunity. The caliphs came and appeared before the court in dignified manner.

The president said charge was leveled against him in 2016 and I had obtained bail from this court. I request the judiciary the cases be decided as soon as possible because case is registered and then it runs from generation to generation. My father had filed case in 1977 and it is still running.

Later talking to media men he said I came to know that decision of this case has been written. I was charged that I had supplied the arms. I am bound to Pakistan laws. But I don’t want to take immunity in this case. I had appeared in this case like a common man not as president of Pakistan.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till April 09.
