ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Wednesday forecast mainly dry and hot weather over most plain areas of the country on Thursday, with rain-wind/thunderstorms likely at isolated places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and the Potohar region during evening and night.
In Islamabad and adjoining areas, partly cloudy and dry weather is expected, with rain-wind/thunderstorm likely during evening and night with a 35 per cent probability.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, most plain districts are expected to remain dry and hot during daytime. However, partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorms is likely at isolated places in Kohistan, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram, Buner, Shangla, Swat, Dir, Kurram, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan and adjoining areas during the afternoon.
In Punjab, most districts are expected to remain dry, with hot weather in the plain areas during daytime. Rain-wind/thunderstorms are likely in Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Attock, Mianwali, Khushab, Bhakkar, Layyah and adjoining areas during evening and night.
Most districts of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to experience hot and dry weather. However, rain-wind/thunderstorms may occur in Zhob, Musakhel and adjoining areas during evening and night.
Partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorms is expected at isolated places in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
During the past 24 hours, dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country, with hot conditions in plain areas and partly cloudy weather in northern areas. Dir received 3 millimetres of rain.
Shaheed Benazirabad recorded the highest maximum temperature at 46 degrees Celsius, followed by Sakrand, Padidan and Hyderabad at 44C and Dadu at 43C.
The minimum and maximum temperatures recorded in major cities were: Islamabad 21-35C, Lahore 25-36C, Karachi 27-36C, Peshawar 24-36C, Quetta 12-35C, Gilgit 11-32C, Muzaffarabad 18-35°C, Skardu 6-26C, Murree 12-22C, Faisalabad 26-36C and Multan 25-38C.
