LAHORE, FEB 06 (ONLINE): Anti Corruption Court (ACC) Lahore has approved acquittal plea of Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shahbaz Sharif in Ramzan Sugar Mills corruption case.
Judge Sardar Muhammad Iqbal Dogar had heard Ramzan Sugar Mills reference against PM Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz Sharif on February 3.
The court while reserving judgment on acquittal plea of Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz had said the verdict would be announced on February 6.
ACC acquitted Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Sharif in Ramazan sugar mills waste water drain case.
Judge Sardar Muhammad Iqbal Dogar of ACC announced the decision.
The court remarked there is no possibility of conviction.
It is pertinent to mention here NAB Lahore had initiated inquiry into Lahore Sugar Mills reference on July 11, 2017.
NAB had accused that Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz got constructed waste water drain for Ramzan Sugar Mills in Chiniot in 2015. The construction of this drain caused loss of Rs 21.30 crore to national exchequer.
PM Shehbaz Sharif was arrested on October 5, 2018 by NAB. Hamza Shahbaz Sharif was arrested on June 11, 2019 in Ramzan Sugar Mills reference.
Accountability Court (AC) Lahore indicted Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz on April 9, 2019.
Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz were indicted afresh on August 6, 2020 after new evidences and filing of supplementary reference.
A two members bench of LHC approved bail plea of Shehbaz Sharif on February 14, 2019.
Shehbaz Sharif remained in custody for 4 months and 9 days in Ramzan Sugar Mills reference. A two members bench of LHC approved bail of Hamza Shahabaz on February 6, 2020.
Hamza Shahbaz remained in custody for 7 moths 26 days in Ramzan Sugar Mills reference.
Accountability court Lahore returned the reference to NAB on September 11, 2022 after NAB amendments.
Supreme Court nullified NAB amendment act then the reference was again sent to Accountability court for hearing on September 22, 2023.
Ramzan Sugar Mills reference was transferred to Anti Corruption court by accountability court Lahore on October 17, 2024.
105 hearing of Ramzan Sugar Mills reference were held in accountability court Lahore and 13 hearings were held in anti corruption court.
