ISLAMABAD – June 27 (ONLINE) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday ordered completion of Islamabad Jail Complex within next Fiscal Year, also establishing a committee to overview the project.
The committee, comprising of six members, will present its initial report before the Prime Minister Office within a week.
According to a notification issued in this regard, the Prime Minister directed authorities to complete the project on immediate basis – which has been pending since ten years.
Due to non-construction of the building, the Islamabad prisoners have been accommodated in Adiala Jail for the last six decades.
The modern 90-acre jail being built in Sector H-16 adjacent to the motorway will house around 2,000 inmates. Schools, mosques, training centers, playgrounds, and Islamabad Capital Territory courts will also be built in the premises.
According to the notification, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has been named the head of committee, along with secretaries of Interior, Housing and Planning ministries. Islamabad’s Chief Commissioner and the Chairman of Capital Development Authority (CDA) are also a part of committee.
The project – as per reports has been pending since long amidst the unavailability of funds. However, it is expected that the jail complex will be completed in line with international standards.
