PM directs to end loadshedding from May 01 all over the country

ISLAMABAD, April 26 (Online): Prime Minister (PM) Shahbaz Sharif has directed to end loadshedding completely from May 01 all over the country.

According to PM office spokesperson a high level emergency meeting on announced and unannounced power load shedding was held under the PM Shahbaz Sharif here Tuesday.

During the briefing it was told that 20 out of 27 power houses which were lying shut since more than one year have been made functional. This step has enhanced the power generation capacity.

The PM was told during the meeting the previous government had not purchased fuel for power houses during the last four years. The incumbent government has not only made arrangement for fuel within two weeks but also has enhanced the power generation capacity through these power houses to contain load shedding.

It was told in the meeting the overall production of electricity in the country is 18500 megawatt. The electricity shortfall with reference to its demand is 500 to 2000 megawatt.

The PM was informed in details about feeders running in loss at power distribution companies.

The PM directed to end loadshedding from May 01 by addressing all the problems till April 30.

The PM held “we cannot put the people into difficulties due to load shedding during the summer season.

Shehbaz Sharif directed the authorities concerned to evolve a sustained and smooth mechanism of fuel supply and that in summer season, advance planning of one month be done.

PM sought long term effective plan to end losses of feeders of loss incurring power distribution companies.

The PM while taking stern notice of the complaint on creation of artificial shortage of diesel during harvesting season of crops ordered that those behind creating artificial shortage be identified and a stern and prompt action be taken against them.

He directed the concerned authorities to ensure uninterrupted supply of diesel to the farming community to run agriculture machinery.

The district management should ensure that no difficulties are faced by the farmers in getting diesel in rural areas.

Information minister Marriyam Aurangzeb and former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and the concerned senior officers attended the meeting.
