Petition against closure of social media platform X : Court seeks detailed reply from PTA

ISLAMABAD, March 13 (online): During the hearing of petition against the closure of social media platform X , counsel for Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) appeared in the court and sought time for preparation of the case.

The court while seeking detailed and clear reply on next hearing adjourned the hearing of the case.
The petition filed by Journalist Ehtesham Abbasi came up for hearing before single bench of IHC led by Chief Justice (CJ) Aamer Farooq Wednesday.

The CJ IHC Aamer Farooq inquired what happened with the petition filed in Sindh High Court (SHC). Contempt of court application was filed therein.

The counsel for the petitioner told that notice has been issued on contempt of court plea.

The CJ IHC said to counsel for PTA that clear reply be filed on next hearing. Reply should be clear. Tell the court what is being done in fact.

The counsel said we have objection on maintainability of this petition.

The CJ IHC remarked what is it, who has done it but a social media platform has been closed. According to media reports, lax system is running in Sindh as well. Therefore, we have asked you to file detailed report.

The lawyer said closing social media platform is violation of basic human rights.

The CJ IHC remarked let the reply come. Ones own weapons are not shown before. Therefore, I am not giving long date and seeking reply early.

The case while seeking detailed reply from PTA adjourned the hearing of the case till March 26.
