Islamabad, 09 Apr 2023 (Online): Maulana Fazlur Rahman, Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif, the big three leaders of the ruling coalition have had a telephonic conversation in which they discussed the appointment of judges in the Supreme Court, amendments to the constitution and law related to the judicial commission, and Farooq H. Naik was directed to prepare proposals to empower the parliamentary committee.
The three heads of government agreed to ensure the supremacy of the parliament, also consulted regarding the appointment of judges in the higher judiciary, amendments to the constitution and laws related to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC).
Leaders also emphasized to strengthen the Parliamentary Committee on Appointment of Judges and to abolish its role as a post office.
The leaders agreed to take forward Farooq Naik’s proposals to empower the Parliamentary Committee, the three leaders agreed that judges should be appointed to the Supreme Court through the Parliamentary Judges Committee.
The three also agreed on amendments to the Contempt of Court Act.
