No provocative or hate speech should be delivered in the name of freedom of expression: IHC

ISLAMABAD, Feb 03 (Online): Islamabad High Court (IHC) has summoned report from amici curiae on the petition filed agaisnt social media rules.

The case came up for hearing before single bench of IHC presided over by Chief Justice (CJ) Athar Minallah Thursday.
Senior journalist Hamid Mir appeared in the court who filed his report as amicus curiae.

The court inquired have all the amici curiae filed the report.

Iman Mazari advocate told the court some amici curiae have sought time to file their report. Farha Aziz, amicus curiae has sought time to file reply.

The court remakred the society will become better as much as it has access to information. If we keep before us article 19 and 19-A of the constitution and see then three to four things are very important. No provocative or hate speech should be delivered in the name of freedom of expression. Nothing will be there if there is no freedom of expression. Therefore access to information is must.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till March 07.
