ISLAMABAD, Dec 29 (Online): New Local Bodies (LB) system in Islamabad has been challenged in Islamabad High Court (IHC).
The case came up for hearing before single bench of IHC led by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiani.
The court while issuing notice to federal government, interior secretary, law secretary has sought reply from them till January 11. Attorney general has also been issued notice for assisting the court.
Adil Aziz Qazi counsel for Sardar Mehtab local bodies representative appeared in the court. He took the plea direct election of mayor and abolishing post of deputy mayor run contrary to the law. The council comprising non elected persons to run the local government too is against the law. Introducing new system through presidential ordinance while local government law 2015 is in place is alien to constitution.
The court has summoned reply from interior secretary and law secretary till January 11.
