RAWALPINDI, Aug 30 (Online): Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench has barred Wapda and NEPRA from recovering Fuel Adjustment Charges (FAC) and other taxes from consumers.
The court while issuing notice to IESCO chairman and other respondents has summoned detailed reply from them.
A single bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench led by Justice Jawad Hassan took up for preliminary hearing petition against charging of heavy amount of FAC and other taxes in the domestic electricity bills.
The court ordered that only cost of electricity be received from the consumers through electricity bills besides issuing revised bill to the petitioner within two days.
Separate petitions were filed by sheikh Saddam Tariq, Taj Abbasi and Noman Elahi through their lawyer Chaudhry Rizwan Elahi advocate and Ghulam Ahmad Zammurd, citizen from Jhelum through his lawyer Chaudhry Asif Karim.
The petitioners had made respondents secretary water and power, chairman National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), chairman WAPDA, Commissioner FBR, Chief Executive Officer IESCO, Director General and heads and the officers of 17 departments including finance ministry through the petitions.
The petitioners had prayed the court to declare not only all the unjust taxes by IESCO illegal but also directed it to adjust in next bills the taxes already recovered from the consumers.
The court adjourned the hearing of the case till September 15.
