LHC reserves judgment on petition against law empowering EC to withdraw election symbol

LAHORE, JANUARY 29 (ONLINE): Lahore High Court (LHC) has reserved judgment on petition filed against the law in regard to withdrawing election symbol from political parties.

Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan of LHC heard the petition filed by Azhar Siddique advocate Monday.

It was said in the petition clause 15 of election act runs contrary to the constitution and basic rights. The powers of Election Commission (EC) for withdrawing election symbol from any party are against the constitution.

It was taken plea in the petition Supreme Court (SC) has maintained party election cannot leave any impact on the general election.

It was requested in the petition court should annul the clause 215 of election act. The court should declare withdrawal of election symbol of PTI by EC as illegal act.

Counsel for EC said all the stance has been mentioned in the decisions of Peshawar High Court and Supreme Court (SC).

The court inquired which institution has to see this all.

The counsel of federation said it is written in SC decision this all has to be seen by EC.
The counsel for petitioner said EC is neither court nor tribunal.

The court reserved the judgment after hearing the arguments.
