LHC reserves judgment on maintainability of petition against escalating bills, taxes

LAHORE, Aug 30 (Online): Lahore High Court (LHC) has reserved judgment on maintainability of the petition against inflated electricity bills and recovery of taxes in bills.

The petition was filed by a citizen Muhammad Latif.

A single bench of LHC led by Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza took up the case for hearing Wednesday.

Ahmad Abdullah counsel for the petitioner argued in the case.

The learned judge while addressing counsel for petitioner remarked ” yes, you will say what.

The counsel for petitioner said electricity bills have been enhanced and additional tax is being received.

Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza inquired you challenged hike in electricity bills on what basis.

The counsel for the petitioner said the inflated bills are being sent to the citizens.

Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza inquired upto what extent the basic rights are being violated. What law is being violated.

The counsel replied it is violation of article 2.

The learned judge inquired how it is violation of article 2 of the constitution.

The counsel for the petitioner could not give satisfactory reply.

The learned judge remarked what procedure people have adopted is correct procedure. This is the method that people force government to withdraw its decision by voicing protest.

The court reserved judgment on the maintainability of the petition.
