LHC declares petition on appointment of army chief on seniority basis non maintainable

Lahore, November 16 (Online): Lahore High Court (LHC) while declaring the petition on appointment of army chief on the basis of seniority non-maintainable has remarked the matter of seniority is very important and the petitioner should resort to Supreme Court (SC).

The court remarked full court of SC can hear the case pertaining to appointment of army chief according to seniority.

The petition was filed by Najma Ahmad advocate through Tariq Aziz advocate making federal government, secretary law, Aitzaz Ahsan and others respondents.

Justice Faisal Zaman Khan of LHC took up the petition for hearing Wednesday.

The petitioner took the plea in the petition the incumbent army chief is going to retire on November 29. The federal government is bound to appoint new army chief as per law.

The Prime Minister has authority to appoint new army chief among the name recommended by defence ministry.

It is requested to court to issue order for appointing the senior most military officer as army chief.

The court declared the petition non maintainable.
