LHC admits for hearing petition for preventing Raja Riaz from working as opposition leader

LAHORE, April 10 (Online): Justice Shahid Karim of Lahore High Court (LHC) has admitted for hearing the petition seeking court’s orders to prevent leader of the opposition in National Assembly (NA)Raja Riaz Ahmad from performing his function.

The court while issuing notices to federal government and other respondents has sought written reply till the next week.

A citizen Munir Ahmad had filed petition through Azhar Siddique advocate in LHC seeking court’s order to prevent Raja Riaz Ahmad from performing his functions as leader of the opposition in NA.

The petitioner had taken plea in his petition that the speeches delivered by Raja Riaz in NA have made everything clear. Raja Riaz appointment as leader of opposition is illegal and this thing has been proved.

While giving arguments Azhar Siddique said in the event of dissolution of assembly, Raja Riaz will be part of consultation in connection with interim set up. It is feared that interim government will not be neutral if Raja Riaz Ahmad is part of consultation.
On this basis Raja Riaz Ahmad be prevented from working as leader of opposition.

The court while admitting the petition for hearing issued notices to federal government and other respondents and has sought reply from them in next week.
