Judges are not giving media, people access to trial despite high court orders: Fawad Ch writes letter to Justice Shahzad Malik

ISLAMAB AD, DEC 31 (ONLINE): Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has said judges are not giving media and people access to trial despite clear orders of high court.

” major difficulties are being created for legal advisors. Lawyers too are facing unnecessary difficulty to seek access to court’s room. The courts seem to be working under pressure to accelerate the pace of result’ he said this in a letter written to administrative judge of Anti Terrorism Courts (ATCs) justice Malik Shahzad for acquiring CCTV recording of ATCs and documents.

He said in the letter ” I am at present facing cases in ATCs at Faisalabad and Rawalpindi. Judges are not giving media and people access to trial despite high court’s orders so much so that key hurdles are being created for legal advisors. Lawyers too are facing unnecessary difficulty in seeking access to court room.
Such proceedings give rise to fears. The proper procedure is not being implemented for charge framing and decision of petitions. The courts seem to be working under pressure to accelerate the pace of results. These steps cause more damage to transparency of court’s process. Trial courts have failed in providing important documents and evidence despite several petitions. Denial to access to documents violates the just trial and effective legal defence of accused. Directives be issued for taking into custody CCTV recording from ATC of Rawalpindi and Faisalabad. The attitude of judges who are hearing these cases be reviewed immediately.

Directives be issued to provide court’s orders, documents and evidential material to the counsel of accused.
