Important meeting regarding extradition treaty for swapping of criminals between Pakistan and UK fix in Interior Ministry

Islamabad- January 17 (Online): An important meeting has been called in Ministry of Interior regarding extradition treaty for swapping of criminals between Paistan and UK.

Important decisions have been made in the meeting of Special Ministerial Committee constituted by Federal Cabinet. Minister of Interior Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed chaired the meeting. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Minister for Human Rights Dr. Shereen Mazari and Advisor Barrister Shahzad Akbar were present in the meeting along with Secretary Law, Additional Secretary Interior including other important officials.

It was decided in the meeting that treaty will be signed in the best interest of people. Further consultation with UK will be made before taking the draft agreement in front of Federal Cabinet.

This treaty shall enable both countries to exchange criminals. Treaty shall only apply on those citizens who are already convicted by concerned courts.

First round of negotiations on swapping of criminals was held in October 2019.
