ISLAMABAD, May 14 (Online): Islamabad High Court (IHC) has temporarily stopped government from blocking mobile phone sims of tax non- filers. The court while issuing notice to respondents has fixed May 27 for next hearing. IHC has issued stay order on the petition filed by Mobile Phone Company Zong.
The petitioner told the court loss to the tune of Rs 100 crores annually will be caused to Zong company in the event of closure of 5 lac sims of all companies;.
Advocate Suleman Akram Raja counsel for Zong company argued during the hearing of the case amendment in law runs contrary to basic right of freedom of business as laid down in article 18 of the constitution. The government cannot get powers to block sims of people under this constitutional clause. This is coercive law and in the event of implementation of this law, government will become entitled to deprive citizens of the amenities in other business sectors.
