IHC seeks medical report regarding health of Pervaiz Elahi

ISLAMABAD, APRIL 19 (Online): Islamabad High Court (IHC) has sought medical report in respect of health of former Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi besides directing PIMS administration to visit Adiala jail and submit report thereof on Monday. Justice Arbab Tahir remarked Pervaiz Elahi is not our prisoner now. We have to see this too. The powers in connection with house arrest rest with federal or provincial government. Can court issue directives for house arrest. Court should be informed in this regard.

He gave these remarks on Friday during hearing of the case. During the hearing of petition seeking court’s orders for not shifting Pervaiz Elahi from Adiala Jail to some where else, Justice Arbab Muhammad remarked the report to the effect that Pervaiz Elahi ribs have been fractured is from PIMS hospital. Report says stents have been put in his heart. He is facing difficulties in breathing. I and you too have parents. We all will have to see in the perspective of humanity.

The petition seeking court’s orders for not shifting Pervaiz Elahi from Adiala Jail to some where else came up for hearing Friday.
Representative of Adiala jail said Pervaiz Elahi has been kept in security ward 2. The counsel said even disprin tablet is not provided in jail. He should be shifted so some good hospital. Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir inquired can court order for shifting Pervaiz Elahi from jail to hospital.

Counsel for Qaisra Elahi said this court had ordered for court arrest of Shandana Gulzar and Shahryar Afridi. Justice Arbab Tahir remarked both of they were detained under 3-MPO. That was a separate issue. Pervaiz Elahi is not our prisoner now. We have to see these things too the powers in respect of house arrest lie with federal government or provincial government. The court remarked tell us on next hearing can court direct government for house arrest.

The court while seeking details in this regard adjourned the hearing of the case till April 22.
