IHC reserves judgment on maintainability of petition filed against appointment of PIC

ISLAMABAD, FEB 01 (ONLINE): Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved judgment on the maintainability of petition through which the appointment of former judge Ijaz Hassan Awan as Pakistan Information Commission (PIC) has been challenged.

Former Judge Ijaz Hassan Aiwan had acquitted Prime Minister (PM) Shahbaz Sharif.

The petition came up for hearing before a single bench of IHC led by Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb here Wednesday.

The court remarked a person who has experience of working as lawyer for ten years can become judge of high court. What is age of information commissioner at present?

The counsel for petitioner told the court he was retired from service in November 2022 on completion of his 60 years of age.

The court remarked he is qualified in terms of age. The age should be less than 62 years.

Assistant Attorney General (AAG) told the court there is another application pending hearing regarding appointment of information commissioner. Pakistan information commissioner was appointed on January 10.

The counsel for petitioner told the court the qualification at par with the judge of high court is must for appointment against the post of information commissioner. The sitting information commission has remained a retired civil judge. The incumbent commissioner was retired from his post in November 2022.

The court reserved judgment on maintainability of the petition.
