IHC calls more arguments on maintainability of petitions filed against summoning of DG NAB LHR by PAC

ISLAMABAD, July 27 (Online): Islamabad High Court (IHC) has called more arguments on the maintainability of petitions filed against summoning of DG NAB Lahore Shahzad Salim by Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

The court has also issued notice to secretary (National Assembly) and others on the plea of acting chairman NAB.

The court also extended its order on not initiating adverse action against the petitioners till next hearing.

The petitions came up for hearing before single bench of IHC led by acting Chief Justice Amir Farooq here Wednesday.

The court remarked if PAC calls for funding and finance then there is no issue. Can this court award capital punishment while hearing thispetition. The question is only this is the jurisdiction of PAC in this matter.

Deputy Attorney General (DAG) told the court PAC can see whatever application pertaining to public interest comes.

The court remarked PAC can see that application only in public domain which is related to finance. The institution has its own respect, be it parliament or judiciary.

DAG told the court permission be granted to present minutes of previous meeting. The court should see what replies they have given. My client is not hesitant in appearing before PAC.

The court remarked there is no harm if NAB is called in funding matters. But where there is issue of jurisdiction then the court has to see.
Counsel for DG NAB told the court he was also counsel in the petition which was accepted by Supreme Court. The matter of maintainability was settled in SC after petition.

The court observed does it fall in their jurisdiction or otherwise what they are doing other than accounts. The library of judges and lawyers of Lahore High Court is better than us.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case till August 11.
