Govt gives indication to launch proceedings against president for rejecting second summary

ISLAMABAD, Jan 12 (Online): President Arif Alvi has rejected the second summary from Prime Minister (PM) for summoning the joint session of parliament on January 12.

The government while declaring it constitutional violation has given indication to take action against the president.

According to parliament sources tense situation still persists between the president Arif Alvi and federal government on the matter of summoning joint session of the parliament. President has rejected second advice of PM on summoning joint session on January 12.

It is pertinent to mention here that the PM had sent second summary to the president for summoning joint session on January 12.

Government wants to get approve Islamabad Local Bodies amendment bill in the joint session.

Sources said the president has rejected this bill and he has refused to endorse it. However president is bound to PM advice under article 48 of the constitution. President can withheld summary for 10 days.

Non summoning the joint session of the parliament on the advice of PM is flagrant breach of the constitution.
Proceedings can be initiated against the president on non summoning joint session of the parliament.

The Aiwan-d-Sadr sources were of the view how can the joint session be summoned on the bill which the president has refused to endorse.

Sources further said government has declared the rejection of summary by the president on summoning joint session a violation of the constitution besides giving indication for launching proceedings against the president.
