Govt decides not to make amendment in army act-1952 before appointment of new army chief

ISLAMABAD, Nov 16 (Online): Government has decided not to make amendments in army act-1952 before the appointment of new army chief.

Government sources told Online the proposals are under consideration to appoint army chief in future on the basis of seniority like chief justice of Supreme Court.

No change will be made in army act-1952 before appointment of new army chief. Neither any proposal for amendment in army act is under consideration nor this matter is being considered in the agenda of cabinet committee for legislation. Government will appoint army chief as per law and constitution. No legislation in this matter is under consideration before this appointment.

Government sources told federal government will make amendments in army act after consultation with coalition partners. The decision will be taken in this regard after consultation and appointment of new army chief.

Sources said the proposals are under consideration for appointment of army chief in the future on seniority basis like the appointment of chief justice of Supreme Court.

Minister for law and justice Ayyaz Sadiq confirmed that the matter of amendments in army act-1952 is not on agenda at the present time.
