Establishment puts forward 3 options, not Imran: Mazari

ISLAMABAD 15 April (Online): Former human right minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf leader Shireen Mazari said on Friday, that Imran Khan has not approached military for help to end ‘Political deadlock’ after no-confidence motion was submitted against him.

She said that military had sought the meeting through then Defence Minister Pervez Khattak to put forward three point proposals: face no-trust motion, resign, or opposition withdrawing the no-trust move and holding of fresh election thereafter.

She wrote on micro blog website “Let me be clear — I am stating on record PM did not call mly for help on “breaking pol deadlock”. The mly sought the mtg thru then Def Minister Khattak & they put forward the 3 proposals of either PM resigning or taking part in VNC or fresh elections!”

While call this nonsense she also added “Why wld IK give option of resigning when he had already stated categorically & repeatedly he wld never resign. Makes no sense! Also IK had categorically rejected VNC as foreign regime change conspiracy. So why wld he suggest these options.Absurd!”

When journalist inquired on Thursday, about the three options Imran revealed in his interview that, Gen Iftikhar denied this and said, that it was in fact the prime minister’s office (PMO) that had approached the army chief to find a solution to the political deadlock.

General also added that “”It is unfortunate that our political leadership was not ready to talk to each other. So the army chief and the DG ISI went to the PMO and three scenarios were discussed,”

“This third option was acceptable to the prime minister, and he asked us to talk to the [then] opposition on his behalf. So the army chief then went to the opposition, which at the time was PDM, and presented this request in front of them. And after discussion, the opposition said they did not want to take such a step and instead wanted to go ahead with what they had planned,” Gen Iftikhar said.
