ECPs step to abolish lifelong disqualification in Election Act challenged in LHC

LAHORE Oct 14 (Online): The move to abolish the law of lifelong disqualification in the Election Act was challenged in the Lahore High Court.

Citizen Mishkoor Hussain filed a petition through the mediation of Nadeem Sarwar Advocate.

In the petition, the Election Commission, Federal Government and others have been made parties.

Stand has been taken in petition that by amending the Election Commission Act, the lifetime period of disqualification has been reduced to five years. Amending the law after interpretation by Supreme Court is violative of Section 3 of Article 175 of the Constitution.

It is pleaded in the petition that the court declares the amendment of the Election Act null and void.
