ECP takes notice of political parties’ statements on Karachi LG polls

ISLAMABAD 15 JAN (Online): Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) took notice of all political parties’ statements regarding local bodies election held today (Sunday).

According to ECP spokesperson Qurratulain Fatima allegations on election commission regarding constituencies’ delimitation are baseless.

According to Sindh local government act- 2013 section-10 provincial government has the right to provide the number of local councils in every district.

According to notification of December 2021 Sindh government has provided the numbers of local councils of every district. According to law ECP is bound to mark constituencies as per its capacity.

According to spokesperson, constituencies have no similarities with local bodies’ elections in Islamabad.

In Islamabad case, federal government has increased union council number from 101 to 150 during election schedule.

According to law election commission cannot bring any changes to union councils after election schedule.

Election commission gave opinion in high court that they are ready to hold election in 7 to 10 days.
