ECP decides to hold Punjab poll on 14 May as per SC orders

ISLAMABAD 05 April (Online): Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to hold Punjab general election on May 14 as Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan issued verdict on 04 April.

ECP also issued election schedule for the provincial elections.
According to schedule last date for appeals on nomination paper is 10 April.

The statement issued by ECP says that election tribunal will issue verdict on appeals till 17 April. Review list of candidates will be issued on 18 April. Last date to take back nomination paper will be 19th of April.

Electoral symbol will be allotted on April 20. Election will be held on 14 May.

According to sources ECP consultation meeting was chaired by Sikander Sultan Raja on Wednesday.

Consultation was held on SC verdict on Suo Moto case of general election in the province of Punjab and Khyber PK.

Election schedule issued by Supreme Court was discussed.

Lawyers briefed the meeting on SC verdict to hold election on May 14.

Consultation meeting came to conclusion to implement SC in words and spirit. ECP issued instructions to all wing to speed up preparation to hold polls.

It has been decided to contact interim government of Punjab for consultation on administrative and security matters.

ECP will also contact federal government for the provision of funds and other related matters.
