ECP asks govt for funds to hold LG polls

Islamabad – October 9 (Online): Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has sent a missive to ministry of revenue for issuance of funds to conduct local body polls across the four provinces, Online revealed Saturday.
According to details, ECP has decided to issue orders to four provincial governments and the federal government to settle down issue of non-cooperation by provincial governments for holding local body polls.
According to sources, ECP has decided to hold phased elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the first place.
Election Commission of Pakistan will issue orders to KPK government to hold elections in the first phase in November.
In this regard, ECP has sought funds from federal government to hold local body elections in all provinces, including the federal capital.
In a letter sent to Ministry of Finance by the ECP, it was said that funds allocated for local body polls should be released soon.
ECP has reserved its decision after hearing the versions of federal and provincial governments.
