ISLAMABAD, January 24 (Online): Election Commission (EC) has adjourned hearing of contempt of EC and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) case against PTI founder Imran Khan till February 20.
Hearing of contempt of EC case against Fawad Chaudhry was adjourned till February 21.
A 4-member bench of EC presided over by member Sindh Nisar Durrani took up contempt of EC and CEC case for hearing Wednesday.
Shoaib Shaheen counsel for PTI founder appeared before EC.
He said he has come here under the orders of EC. “I am not having case file and I am contesting election this time. I have sought adjournment in connection with my cases from Supreme Court as I am contesting election. The hearing of this case be also adjourned after election. The elections are imminent and if action is taken against one party then the impression would go one party is being targeted. The real responsibility of EC is to hold fair and transparent election in the country.
He said section 144 has been imposed in Punjab and KP. We are not being allowed to hold corner meetings what to speak of public meetings.
KP member said the administration has to take such steps if the candidate or one among those with him waves arms.
Counsel Shoaib Shaheen said we are peaceful people. Election symbol of bat was snatched from us. Level playing field should be given to all in election. But injustice is being done to us here.
KP member said the symbol of bat makes no difference to you. The election can be contested without it. Picture of party chairman is pasted on election related banners. And all know him.
Member Sindh said you people have done this with bat on your own.
Counsel Shoaib Shaheen said we have been banned for five years by snatching bat from us. The party stood abolished due to it.
KP member said have you read order that your party has been dissolved.
Counsel for PEMRA told the EC that witnesses of PEMRA and EC are there in contempt case.
He said hearing of any contempt case is not adjourned so much.
Counsel Shoaib Shaheen said cases have been running. At present it is essential to focus on election.
Upon it the commission adjourned hearing of case till February 20.
Faisal Chaudhry advocate appeared in contempt of EC and CEC case against Fawad Chaudhry.
He told that reply to show cause notice has been prepared but signatures of Fawad Chaudhry are not thereon because meeting has not taken place with him.
He prayed the EC to adjourn hearing of the case besides issuing production order of Fawad Chaudhry on next hearing.
The EC while adjourning hearing of case till February 21 directed to file reply of show cause notice.
