Dr Aafia Siddiqui release case: FO should take steps to ensure security of Dr Fouzia Siddiqui in US: IHC

ISLAMABAD, August 05 (Online): Foreign Office (FO) has filed progress report in Islamabad High Court (IHC) in Dr Aafia Siddiqui release case.

The case related to Dr Aafia Siddiqui who is currently jailed in US jail came up for hearing before a single bench of IHC led by Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan here Friday.

Dr Sajid Qureshi counsel for the petitioner appeared in the court.

The FO told the court that Dr Fouzia wants diplomatic passport.

The court inquired from the counsel for Dr Fouzia Siddiqui why do you want diplomatic passport.

The counsel for Dr Fouzia Siddiqui told the court that there is fear and apprehension that some thing can happen therein, therefore, we are wanting diplomatic passport.

The court while addressing the counsel remarked “first you should apply and obtain visa.

The counsel for Dr Fouzia Siddiqui told the court FO should give guarantee before the court for complete security of his client.

The court remarked if she goes to US then she can stay in Pakistan embassy.

The FO representative told the court “ I talk to counsel general in US.

The court remarked you should place trust on FO. They are helping you. They are endeavoring the results should become better gradually and slowly. You should apply for visa. FO is prepared to provide facility to Fouzia Siddiqui in obtaining visa. FO has written US embassy to extend support to Fouzia Siddiqui in obtaining visa..

According to FO authorities they cannot issue diplomatic passport to Dr Fouzia Siddiqui as per law.

The court directed Dr Fouzia Siddiqui to apply for US visa. FO should take steps to ensure security of Dr Fouzia Siddiqui in US.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case till September 03.
