ISLAMABAD, JULY 07 (Online): Government has decided to shift Prime Minister (PM) house and office on solar energy.
The national Solar Energy policy will be announced on August 01.
A high level meeting of Energy Task Force was held under PM Shahbaz Thursday.
Meeting was attended by federal ministers Khurram Dastgir, Miftah Ismail, Ahsan Iqbal, Marriyum Aurangzeb, minister of state for petroleum Tassadaq Malik, respective senior officers and chief secretaries of all the provinces through video link.
Detailed briefing was given to the participants of the meeting with reference to promotion of solar energy in the country.
The meeting was told that the proposal for shifting the power houses running on fuel to the solar energy is under consideration.
The participants of the meeting also took detailed review of proposal for shifting state buildings to solar energy. The proposal for generating solar energy on 2000 feeders of 11 KV is also under consideration.
It was told in the meeting that plants capable for generating solar energy upto 1000 megawatt will be installed on state buildings within 10 years. These will be installed on the basis of Boot (Build, Own, Operate, Transfer).
The meeting was further informed that tubewells will be solarized in the country. The plan to shift 30000 tubewells to solar energy in Balochistan is also under consideration. This project will cost Rs 300 billion.
The meeting was further informed it is also being considered that solar energy plants having net metering facility be provided to the citizens.
The PM while appreciating proposals from Solar Energy Task Force directed all the provinces be apprised of these proposals and opinion in this regard be obtained from them.
It should be ensured that there should be harmony among all the provinces in respect of all the projects of alternative energy.
It was decided to announce national solar energy policy in the month of August however implementation of this policy will be subject to approval from council of common interests.
