LAHORE, Dec 20 (Online): Lahore High Court (LHC) has sought affidavit from chairman PEMRA to the effect that he has not imposed restriction on TV channels from airing former chairman PTI statements and interview.
The court remarked chairman PEMRA should file this reply too that who has imposed ban.
The petitions filed against ban on airing the speeches of former chairman PTI Imran Khan by T V channels despite court’s orders came up for hearing before single bench of LHC led by Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza Wednesday.
Lawyer Ahmed Pansota appeared in the court on behalf of former chairman PTI.
The court sought affidavit from chairman PEMRA.
The court remarked chairman PEMRA should file affidavit that he had not imposed ban on airing statements and interviews of former chairman PTI by TV channels. Chairman PEMRA should also file this reply who has imposed this ban .
The court has directed Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) to file written reply.
The court adjourned the hearing of the case till next week.
The petitioner had taken plea in the petition that former chairman PTI was shut along with his voice. Giving air time to political parties on the basis of equality is legal requirement. LHC had suspended the notification related to ban on airing and broadcasting former chairman PTI speeches. Despite court’s orders the TV channels are being barred from airing speeches of former chairman PTI.
It is pertinent to mention here PEMRA had imposed ban on live casting the speeches of former chairman PTI on August 21, 2022.
It was said in PEMRA notification ban on airing speeches of Imran Khan had been imposed under section 27 of PEMRA ordinance 2002.
Citing to Imran Khan speech in F-9 Park Islamabad it was said in notification that Imran Khan is leveling unfounded allegations against the state institutions persistently.
