At least 30 killed, 50 injured as trains collide near Ghotki

GHOTKI, At least 30 people lost their lives and 50 were injured as two passenger trains collided near Dharki in the wee hours on Monday.

A spokesperson for the Pakistan Railways said the accident occurred when the bogies of Millat Express train, going from Karachi to Sargodha, derailed and crossed onto the opposite rail track. The Sir Syed Express train coming from Rawalpindi crashed into the derailed train.

Deputy Commissioner of Ghotki Usman Abdullah said at least 30 people had been killed while 50 others had been injured in the incident.

The accident occurred between Raiti and Obaro railway stations.

The Pakistan Railways said a relief train has arrived at the scene of the accident and relief work was on. Army jawans and helicopters have also arrived at the site and were carrying out search and rescue along with the Railway officials, rescue services, police and the local administration.

The Railways spokesperson said helpline centers have been set up for passengers in Karachi, Sukkur, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi.

Meanwhile under the relief activities by District Administration Rahim Yar Khan its Rescue 1122 teams have been mobilised and emergency declared at THQ Hospital Sadiqabad &and Sheikh Zayed Rahim Yar Khan. So far 11 injured have been received at THQ Hospital Sadiqabad, while 13 injured and one dead body received at SZH RYK.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said in he was shocked to hear about the accident and ordered an investigation.
