LAHORE, May 20 (Online): The step of arresting journalists for making coverage of May 9 incidents has been challenged in Lahore High Court (LHC).
Azam Chaudhry president Lahore Press Club has filed petition in LHC through Azhar Siddique Advocate making Punjab government, IG Punjab and CCPO Lahore respondents.
The petitioner has taken plea in the petition that constitution of Pakistan does not impose restriction on freedom of expression. The professional journalists are free to discharge their responsibilities under the constitution.
The raids are being conducted on the houses of the journalists who have made coverage of May 09 incidents and they are being arrested.
It was further said in the petition that sanctity of veil and four walls is being trampled. The basic rights are being violated by arresting the journalist after their location comes on geo fencing.
The court was requested to order the police to stop from arresting the journalists besides releasing the arrested journalists.
