4 including AJK MLA, PTI candidate Sardar Chughtai feared killed, as vehicle plunges in River Jhelum

MIRPUR (AJK), Member Azad Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly and candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for the AJK general elections, Sardar Muhammad Saghir Chughtai was feared killed, as his vehicle plunged into Jhelum river near Azad Patan in Kahuta sub-division of Rawalpindi, Friday morning.

The ill-fated learned Kashmiri Parliamentarian Sardar Muhammad Saghir Chughtai was on his way to Rawalakot from Rawalpindi when he met the accident at about 7 in the morning, authorities told APP Friday.

His vehicle met an accident with another car and fell into the river. Both the vehicles could not be traced due to the fast current of the deep river at the site till the last reports came in.

The mishap is feared to have killed at least four of the persons travelling in the two vehicles including the driver of Saghir Chughtai, according to authorities.

Rescue teams are hectically engaged for the recovery of the bodies from the river.

Sardar Saghir Chughtai was recently nominated as Candidate of the PTI from AJK’s Electoral Constituency LA-22 Rawalakot, Poonch Division, for AJK Legislative Assembly Elections scheduled to be held on July 25 this year.

Chughtai had, in the recent past, parted ways from the All Jammu & Kashmir Muslim Conference, and joined the PTI AJK to contest the scheduled AJK elections.
