BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on the nation to move forward with confidence and take concrete steps towards achieving what he described as the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Xi made the remarks at a reception at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, whose National Day is observed on October 1. Premier Li Qiang presided over the event, which was attended by senior Chinese leaders and around 800 guests.
Addressing the gathering, Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, said China’s national rejuvenation was an unstoppable process. He urged the country to remain confident, focused on its goals and committed to steady progress.
Xi said the CPC had led the Chinese people over the past 77 years in achieving what he described as two major achievements — rapid economic growth and enduring social stability. He expressed confidence in China’s modernization and its long-term development prospects.
Reviewing the economic situation, Xi said the Chinese economy had continued to advance despite mounting pressures since the beginning of the year. He called for sustained efforts to promote innovation-driven and high-quality development, improve people’s livelihoods and accomplish the targets set for the year, describing these efforts as important for a strong start to the 15th Five-Year Plan covering 2026 to 2030.
On Hong Kong and Macao, Xi reaffirmed China’s commitment to the “one country, two systems” principle and said the central government would support both regions in integrating more closely with the country’s overall development while maintaining their long-term prosperity and stability.
He also called for deeper exchanges and cooperation across the Taiwan Strait, while reiterating Beijing’s opposition to forces advocating “Taiwan independence” and what it described as external interference. Xi said China would continue promoting the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and advancing national reunification.
On foreign policy, Xi said China would maintain its independent policy of peace and continue implementing its four major global initiatives. He said Beijing would also promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity and contribute what he described as greater certainty and positive momentum to a turbulent world.
