International Media Tours Zhengzhou Airport Economic Zone, Showcasing Openness & Innovation

ZHENGZHOU, Dec 13 (APP):
A delegation of foreign journalists from several countries recently visited the Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone (ZAEZ), highlighting the Zone’s role as a pivotal logistics hub through its innovative “Four Port Linkages” system and its expansive connectivity via the “Four Silk Roads.”

Journalists from Pakistan, South Korea, Ireland, and Türkiye gained firsthand insight into ZAEZ’s advanced logistics framework and its transformation into a dynamic center for high-level openness in inland China. Their tour also showcased the intelligent upgrading of local advanced manufacturing and the region’s successful industrial transformation.

Designated by China’s State Council as the country’s only state-level airport economy experimental zone, ZAEZ in Henan Province also serves as the pilot zone for the Zhengzhou–Luxembourg “Air Silk Road.” Operating with the administrative authority of a prefecture-level city, the Zone plays a key role in integrating the Central Plains region into both domestic and international economic networks.

The Zone’s development strategy focuses on building a leading “Hub + Opening-Up” platform by integrating the airport, railway, highway, and seaport into a unified “Four-Port Linkage” system. At the same time, it expands global connectivity through the Air, Land, Digital, and Maritime “Four Silk Roads,” providing strong support for Henan’s participation in domestic and international economic circulation.

Since its establishment in 2013, ZAEZ has expanded from less than 20 square kilometers into a 747-square-kilometer “Aerotropolis” with a population of around 800,000.

Its hub capabilities have set a benchmark for inland regions nationwide. Zhengzhou Airport now operates 64 all-cargo air routes connecting more than 30 countries and regions. Under the Zhengzhou–Luxembourg “dual-hub” model, China–Europe Railway Express trains departing from the Zone reach Europe in approximately 15 days. A comprehensive multimodal transport network has enabled landlocked Henan to achieve world-class logistics efficiency.

ZAEZ has also emerged as a major base for modern logistics, electronic information, new energy vehicles (NEVs), and biomedicine. The electronic information industry cluster has recorded an annual output value exceeding RMB 500 billion for three consecutive years. Notable projects include the deployment of 300 servers and nearly 4,000 terminals by leading domestic CPU manufacturer Loongson Technology, as well as the operation of central China’s largest intelligent computing facility, the Henan Airport Intelligent Computing Center.

The NEV sector has become a key growth engine, highlighted by the BYD production base, where a new vehicle rolls off the assembly line every 50 seconds. This momentum has placed Henan among China’s top 10 NEV-producing regions, with a complete automotive industry ecosystem gradually taking shape. Emerging sectors such as cross-border e-commerce, with annual transactions exceeding RMB 25.8 billion, and digital creative industries are also flourishing.

In the first three quarters of the current year, ZAEZ recorded a regional GDP of RMB 121.33 billion, marking a year-on-year growth of 11.1 percent—5.5 percentage points higher than the provincial average.
