$563 million received under Pakistan Emergency Response Plan

New York SEPTEMBER 28 (Online): Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to United Nations, Munir Akram said that immediately after the flood, an urgent appeal of $816 million was made under the Pakistan Emergency Response Plan but $563 million has been received.

Pakistan allocated 2.7 billion dollars from its local resources for the completion of various projects.

In the United Nations General Assembly, an informal meeting was held in Pakistan last year on the disastrous floods of 2022, under Dennis Francis, President of United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting discussed the international support provided to Pakistan after the devastating floods last summer, in which United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, Administrator of the United Nations Development Program Achim Steiner and UNICEF Executive Director Miss Katherine Russell also expressed their views in the meeting.

While addressing an informal meeting of UNGA, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to United Nations, Munir Akram said that Commitments at the Geneva Conference included $16.3 billion in projects under the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Framework.

Among these projects, there was an estimate of 13.5 billion dollars for waterways, irrigation channels, and road and rail projects. Since Geneva conference, none of the promised money has been requested or received.

Pakistan representative said that under the 4 RF project, 10.9 billion dollars were promised in the Geneva Conference, Pakistan has received 60% of the 10.9 billion dollars, 6.9 billion dollars.

Pakistan has approved 68% of projects worth $4.74 billion for implementation.

28% of projects worth 1.9 billion dollars for flood-affected areas will be approved soon and Pakistan allocated 2.7 billion dollars from its local resources for the completion of various projects.
