New Warning Issued as Extreme Heatwave Strikes Pakistan

Karachi (PNI) A severe heatwave is sweeping across parts of Pakistan, with temperatures soaring up to 50°C in some regions. The rising temperatures are causing significant discomfort and health concerns for residents.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Lahore hit a blistering 43°C on Sunday, with humidity at a low 17%. The city is expected to remain extremely hot until May 27, with no significant relief in sight.

Other cities are also experiencing extreme heat, with Dadu and Moenjodaro recording a scorching 50°C, and Nawabshah, Sibi, and Turbat reaching 48°C. Bahawalpur and Mithi saw temperatures of 47°C and 46°C, respectively.

In Karachi, the country’s financial hub, the temperature climbed to 36°C with 50% humidity. Weather expert Owais Hyder warned that the city could face its hottest week of the year, with temperatures potentially reaching 40-42°C from Tuesday to Thursday.

The Met Office has issued a warning that most plains in the country will continue to experience a severe heatwave, with some areas likely to see dusty winds and thunderstorms on Monday. However, Gilgit-Baltistan can expect partly cloudy weather with scattered showers and strong winds.

Citizens are advised to take precautions to stay cool and hydrated, especially during the hottest parts of the day. With the heatwave expected to persist in the coming days, it is crucial to take necessary measures to protect oneself from the extreme temperatures.
