MANCHESTER – May 14 (ONLINE) Manchester United talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo has backed incoming manager Erik ten Hag to do well at Manchester United. United, have been below average this season, have been poor this season, and are not in the running for any trophies.
They might even miss out on the qualification spot for the Champions League given they currently occupy the sixth spot in the league table, with West Ham United pushing them for a stiff competition with 55 points from 36 matches, three points behind United with one less game played. If the Hammers manage to equal United on points, they will move up the table due to a better goal difference.
United have chosen to bring in Ajax manager Eric ten Hag into the team, hoping for a major turnaround at the club. The manager has received confidence from one of the greatest players to ever wear the shirt of Manchester United – Cristiano Ronaldo, who has asked everyone to be patient with ten Hag.
“What I know about him is he did a fantastic job for Ajax (Amsterdam), that he’s an experienced coach,” Ronaldo told the club website on Friday. “But we need to give him time. Things need to change the way he wants.”
The 37-year-old has been linked with a potential return to the Bernabeu this season, due to the possibility of a lack of Champions League football at the Manchester-based club. However, Ronaldo has topped the goal scoring charts in the United shirt, netting 18 times in the Premier League – the third highest behind Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min.
“I hope we have success, of course, because, if you have success, all of Manchester is going to have success as well. I wish him the best,” added the Portuguese.
“We are happy and excited, not only as players, but the supporters as well,” Ronaldo said. “Let’s believe that next year we are going to win trophies.”
Ten Hag, who has signed a three-year contract, comes to United after five seasons at Ajax, where he led the side to three league titles and two Dutch Cup triumphs.
